... and even KFC!! (It's just strange to see this ad - a whole KFC sandwich just for US$0.75 !)... Actually, we tried it. Not the same as in Canada; you get no more than two little chicken fingers in the sandwich (I guess that is why it is called a Doble Crunch, not a Big Crunch!)
We even found a Chalet Suisse... ok, maybe it's not the same... close enough though!
In one restaurant, Dave ordered chicken soup,... and was surprised to find a huge chicken leg and thigh in his soup. It is still chicken soup you know, Dave!!
Warning... though weak at heart should skip over the next two pictures.
Here's an Ecuadorian delicacy : Fried Guinea Pig (Called Cuy)... legs, arms, head, and all!
Upon a closer look, I think the head of the Guinea Pig has an odd resemblance to Gonzo (from the muppet show). What do you think?
Our next hostel, Hostel Arupo, was located on a beautiful street, full of greenery and tourists and - surprise, surprise - other hostels ! For those who have been to Thailand, this street (and probably more so, the ones surrounding it) are the Kao San Road of Quito.
Here is the view from this hotel... misty mornings and lots of houses to look at. Didn't see any dogs this time (though you couldn't miss hearing them though!).
And looking down, another view of a rooftop!
This is the Catedral of the Basilica... which I believe is the largest cathedral in Quito. Unfortunately, we were not able to see inside.
Nevertheless, I was pleased to see that the cathedral held ornate and unique gargoyles; you can see in this picture, advaark and monkey gargoyles...
...and in this one, panthers and crocodiles! Go figure? Since when are there crocodiles on Cathedrals?
Wandering around in the small old town area of Quito, it gets very tired. As you can see, hills abound in Quito's old town... but make for very scenic pictures!
From one side of the street, a view of the hill with the "La Virgen de Quito" Statue that looks over parts of Quito.
And looking just over at the other side, you realize to what extent you are on a very steep hill.
Looking back the hill continues... it is just interesting to see the architectural structure of the houses built on such a steep slant.
Here is a picture of the "La Virgen de Quito" statue on top of the hill.
And here is the Statue's view from the top of the hill.
An impressive colonial building in old Quito.
More interesting gargoyles!
This was a strikingly blue and white church... this reminds me of the brightly coloured buildings in Canada's French province, Quebec.
And here are some interesting metal sculptures on a balcony in old Quito.
